Give to the Choir Fund!

This fiscal year is coming to an end on June 30, and AC is asking for more alums to donate money to the annual fund. It’s strange, but having more alumni donate various amounts of money is better for the school than having only a few certain alums donate huge chunks of money.

If you are able to donate something, why not send some money to the choir fund? If you mail a check (postmarked and dated at or before June 30!), make it out to Austin College and mark Choir Fund in the memo section. If you prefer to donate online (by 11:59pm 6/30!), when you get to Annual Fund Options, choose “Other” and write in Choir Fund.

North Texas Storms

As many of you may have heard, Grayson County was hit by severe storms and flooding.  Fortunately, Austin College escaped most of the rising waters.  The parent of an alumni commented, “Austin College is on higher ground.”  I wasn’t quite sure whether she meant that the campus is elevated in comparison to the town, or that the quality of education is greater than that of other institutions.

Wayne Crannell assures us that Craig Hall was untouched, as was most of the rest of the campus.  The 7.6 inches of rain did, however, turn Grand Ave. into Grand River – sending some water through the front door of Wortham.

In other news, the domains for the choir are in the process of being reorganized.  All of the different ensembles and groups – which currently have their own web pages – will be brought together under the ACCHOIRS and AUSTINCOLLEGECHOIRS umbrella.  The single page will contain links to the various ensembles and allow for subdomains (possibly ALUMNI.ACCHOIRS.NET).

While this change also allows the choir to save money on domain registry, don’t be shy about sending donations.  Extra flexibility in the budget is always appreciated.

Be sure not to just READ the alumni blog.  Send your comments!

it’s a little blurry, but you get the idea.

Yesterday Wayne sent out the rehearsal schedule for April 27-28:

Friday, April 27

  • 10:00 am – Noon
  • 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm
  • 7:00 pm – 8:30 (w/orchestra)

Saturday, April 28, 2007

  • 10:30 am – Noon
  • 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm (w/orchestra)

The performance is at 7:30pm on Saturday night. Go to the AC Beethoven site for more information and to register (if you haven’t done so already).

On April 28, the A Cappella Choir (including alumni, staff and friends) will perform Beethoven’s 9th Symphony alongside the Sherman Symphony Orchestra. From the site:

This April, the Sherman Symphony Orchestra, soloists, and the Austin College A Cappella Choir will present a very special musical happening for Austin College, Sherman, and north Texas. With your help, we plan to assemble 100 singers and 70 instrumentalists for a performance of one of the most recognized works in the repertoire.

Singers prepare on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28 with four choral and two orchestral rehearsals. (If you are in the immediate area, you may also join the choir for rehearsals at your convenience.)

Go here for registration instructions.

Our Yahoo! group

I’ll add a link on the sidebar, but Kevin has set up a yahoo! group that will help us communicate within our group of alums. Go sign up!

Welcome, AC choir alums!

Please, if you haven’t already done so, make sure that you are listed in the alumni directory. We want to make sure that you stay in the loop!
